I've been thinking long and hard about the use of actual names as I recount my life stories. I'm going to do my best to come up with nicknames for people. These nicknames may or may not be obvious if the person were to read the story. If you read a story and think it's about you but don't understand the nickname I'll explain it (if I can).
I hated The Devil Incarnate from the moment he spoke to me in the 7th grade. He was in my gym class and when we ran laps he would run up behind me, flip my pony tail and say, "What's under every pony's tail? A horse's ass." then he would laugh and run ahead. I hated him.
The Devil Incarnate was a year ahead of me in school so I was rid of him, for the most part, in the 8th grade. Unfortunately, he rode my school bus. He would do his best on the school bus to do and say similar things to that dreaded gym class we shared. So lovely.
When I was a freshman and The Devil Incarnate was a sophomore we were in band together. This led to many an opportunity for him to torment me. Aside from the school bus and hallways he had band class, band practice and band camp. I think he found it particularly special when we were at band camp and learned that he would be marching behind me as we entered the field to hit our opening formation. Needless to say, I spent all of marching season (during band class and practice) lining up on the long end of the field with The Devil Incarnate and his trombone behind me. Wearing a skirt or dress became an issue as The Devil Incarnate would use his trombone slide to try to lift said skirt or dress up in the back. As if this torment wasn't enough, we also had to do a pass through during our marching program. This meant The Devil Incarnate was marching toward me with his trombone usually aimed at my face. Of course, he would move it at the last second so I did avoid decapitation. Oh, the little things.
I want to end this memory by saying that I do have a fond place in my heart for The Devil Incarnate. I'm sure he would love that I gave him this nickname and knowing that I have very special memories of him. Ultimately The Devil Incarnated dated one of my best friends and became a good friend to me. He taught me how to play the card game Bullshit. I mean, that's priceless in the grand scheme of things!
